Sea Grant Outreach Capacity - Emerging Contaminants and Toxics Remediation Activities

The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College Program (IISGCP) will provide support to GLNPO to enable dissemination of GLRI-funded contaminant research results to stakeholders including the broader research community with the goals of creating a more-informed constituency, facilitating collaboration among researchers, and avoiding duplication of effort. IISGCP will also continue to work closely with GLNPO to identify known and contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) that may have detrimental environmental impacts and could be mitigated through modification of consumer purchasing and disposal behaviors. Through research, education, outreach, and partnerships, IISGCP will provide communities and individuals with information that can help them make knowledgeable decisions about purchasing, using, recycling, or disposing of consumer products such as PPCPs, plastics, pesticides, and other chemicals used in and around businesses and homes that can have unintended environmental consequences.
